On this page you will find all John Barrowman related news, other than Torchwood. We have created 'Torchwood News' pages specially for this. This way it doesn't get lost in any other news. Where ever possible we ill be writing the news ourselves. But it shall be mostly found elsewhere and a link to the original will ALWAYS be provided at the end of the article.

"Tonight's The Night - The Very Best of John Barrowman" - NEW CD RELEASE DATE
By Dana Shukartsi
An official release date for John's new CD "Tonight's The Night - The Very Best of John Barrowman" has been announced and it's 5 September. If you're in the UK you can pre-order the album now on Amazon UK. The Amazon UK listing has the following description of the CD:
John Barrowman, the ubiquitous star of stage and screen on both sides of the Atlantic, releases a selection of his best loved songs that have featured throughout John’s career and helped chart his path to becoming Britain’s biggest all-round entertainer, along with two brand new tracks, including the single "I Owe It All To You".
New songs are a treat indeed. When first announced it seemed it would be only previously released songs. The track list is yet to be confirmed but at least one site has it listed as:
I Owe It All To You (New Track)
What About Us
You're So Vain
All Out Of Love
So Close (with Jodie Prenger)
She's Always A Woman
The Winner Takes It All
Weekend In New England
Your Song
I Won't Send Roses
I Am What I Am
One Night Only
Can't Take My Eyes Off You
Copacabana
Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic
Tonight's The Night (New Track)
If you're outside the UK you can still get the album online but it might have a different release date. Amazon (US) has the CD listed for release on 13 September (updated to 6 September) with no pre-order option yet. We'll keep you informed with any further details released and be sure to check John's Official website as well.
*UPDATE*
US fans can now pre-order this album through Amazon (US). The page has updated and the release date has changed. The US release is now set for 6 September, 1 day after the release in the UK. However, I can't help but notice the serious difference in price between Amazon US and UK. The UK version is being sold for £8.99 while the US version is priced at $35.69. Let me break that down. The US version is priced at £12.74 or $20.93 more than the UK one. That's the cost of another CD! I feel like yet again the US fans of UK delights (such as Barrowman) are getting screwed over.
Don't get me wrong, I don't think this has anything to do with John Barrowman specifically or UK artists in general, I think this is more an example of retailers hiking up prices because they know we will pay for what is unavialable in stores here. It sucks but I am obviously going to get the album. What I am thinking of doing, and other non-UK fans might consider, is ordering from Amazon UK. They do ship to the states but the shiping cost is more as is the delivery time. This option will still increase the price to US fans but probably a good deal less than paying the Amazon US price. Just something to consider. The other option would be to wait for a digital copy to be available through iTunes. I'm sure that will happen and will be cheaper, with immedite digital delivery, but there is no release date that I am aware of. Tricky. Good luck to all my fellow BarrowFans outside the UK.

John Barrowman #5 in AfterElton.com Hot 100 - 23rd May 2011
Hey BarrowFans!
Every year AfterElton.com releases their Hot 100 list, a countdown of the 100 hottest men as voted by their readers. There's good news and bad news. The good news is, that the ever HOT John Barrowman ranked #5 in this yeas list. And really, #5 out of a hundred is quite the accomplishment! The bad news is, last year he was ranked #3. What could've caused this slide down the list, I don't really know. Someone miscounted something, clearly.
Below is the text that accompanied John's ranking on the list, about our Mr. Barrowman:
In our opinion, Scottish/American actor John Barrowman is a victim of bad timing. We're convinced that if his wildly popular series Torchwood aired before voting in the Hot 100 ended, he might easily have ended up in the very top spot. But, no, Torchwood won't return until July, which is when the 44-year-old triple threat (Barrowman can sing, dance and act) will see his profile rocket upward worldwide and put him in the forefront of not just the minds of millions of gay fans, but millions of straight fans as well. John might have finished in the fifth spot this year, but given that Torchwood last aired in 2009, we think it's a testament to his talent, sexiness, and outspokenness as a gay rights advocate that he still scored the number five spot on this year's list.
I couldn't agree more. I think that's exactly what happened, he's been hard at work filming and so he hasn't much been in the public eye. I mean, we talk about him every day but Torchwood hasn't aired and he didn't make any appearances while he was out here with exception of 1 Access Hollywood interview that was easily missed. I'm not blaming him, more defending him. He deserves that top spot, it's a shame he didn't get it. But we're happy he was listed and that he beat out a whole mess of people. It's really an impressive display of his star power, see JB everyone love you!
By the way the 4 gentleman that topped Barrowman...wait...um, that...placed higher than him, where #4Neil Patrick Harris #3Chris Colfer #2Adam Lambert and #1Darren Criss. Now the fact that I love all of those people does not make me think John should have been #5. If I have to choose I'll take Barrowman over all 4 of those. And let me tell you I really really love those 4. But heck they're no Barrowman! And this is BarrowmanDay! And John Barrowman is HOT damn it! Not to mention talented beyond belief, kind to his fans, a good person and role model to so many. He's truly an inspiration and #5 on 1 list doesn't begin to praise him enough.
John Barrowman guest judge on So You Think You Can Dance - 20th May 2011
from WalesOnline
John Barrowman is to step in as a guest judge on BBC1’s So You Think You Can Dance, replacing busy head honcho Nigel Lythgoe.
He will stand in for Atlantic-hopping Lythgoe, who is tied up with his work on American Idol which is nearing its conclusion.
Arlene Phillips will be promoted to head judge for this week as the 10 remaining dancers are put through their paces.
Lythgoe returns on May 28.
Barrowman has already been involved in the series as a guest judge at the “choreography camp” stage.
“I can’t wait to come back and see how they have improved and developed as performers. It’s going to be great now it’s down to the top 10 dancers – the competition is getting hotter.”
Lythgoe, who is also soon to launch a further series of So You Think You Can Dance in the US, said: “I will be watching them dance for their lives from LA. I have no doubt John will bring his incredible pedigree to the panel and keep the dancers on their toes.”
John is to receive the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Drama from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. The degree will be awarded during the Academy's graduation ceremony in July.
Congrats John, looks like I'll have a new favorite Doctor. :) <3Dana
NB: Carole corrected the error later via email that it was drama and not music.

THE AMAZEBALLS MR. BARROWMAN - 16th May 2011
GNB Blog
We’re getting loads of requests about the genius that is John Barrowman; how we got him, what Goodnight Burbank is about, and when will it be available outside the US. So how about a quick blog to answer some of those queries?
First off, let’s briefly describe what the show is about. Goodnight Burbank is a look at the newscasters who bring us the news – only while they’re bringing it. Imagine what your anchors are saying when they’ve thrown to a package and they’re “off-air” – and you’re halfway there – as the show takes place in real time during a fictional half-hour newscast. Sort of like 24 only…well, I guess you could call it 30 and funny. It stars Laura Silverman (the most amazing comic actress ever) who plays a very nasty person but who’s a little broken inside so make of her what you will. It’s also the first ever half-hour comedy made for the web and Hulu are distributing the first 6 episodes. And for everyone outside the US who’ve been asking, it will be made available in other countries and on DVD so keep your hats on – just subscribe to the mailing list on the front page and you’ll be the first to learn when!
Okay, on to the next question. How did we get Mr. B?! Well this was a simple one; all we did was ask his very lovely agent. It was an unusual request to be sure; Would John appear as himself being interviewed by someone with Asperger’s Syndrome and then say outrageous things about Dr. Who and Torchwood? I was over the moon when the word came back; “yes.” Maybe we should define what Asperger’s is, in case you don’t know. From Wikipedia (Asperger Syndrome) : “Asperger’s is an autism spectrum disorder that is characterized by significant difficulties in social interaction, along with restricted and repetitive patterns of behavior and interests.” And a part of that means the person with Asperger’s is a lot more honest than other people because their ability for social interaction is impaired.
'Torchwood's' John Barrowmann on P.M. David Cameron's support of same-sex kissing ban on UK - May 3rd 2011
By John Cook
"Torchwood" star John Barrowman is stunned and dismayed by British Prime Minister David Cameron's apparent support for a ban on showing same-sex kissing on U.K. television outside late-night "adult" viewing hours.
Cameron reportedly favors a policy that would forbid showing any such images during the "pre-watershed" TV hours before 9 p.m. That doesn't sit well with the openly gay Barrowman, whose "Torchwood" character, Capt. Jack Harkness, likewise is no stranger to kissing other men.
"I'm shocked," Barrowman says. "I don't have all the information, but if it's true and it's going to happen, I think it's ridiculous. If we can see a man and a woman kiss [in the earlier hours], we should be able to see two men kiss or two women kiss. It's a sign of affection and love. There's nothing dirty about it. It's perfectly natural, perfectly normal. To do this suggests that it's bad, that's it's wrong. And there is nothing about me and my life that is wrong."

John Barrowman to Play 'Robinson Crusoe' in Glasgow Holiday Pantomime - 5th April 2011
By BWW News Desk
Following its five star debut pantomime, Aladdin, last Christmas, the SECC has announced that John Barrowman and The Krankies will make a triumphant return to the stage of the Clyde Auditorium for the forthcoming panto season.
The SECC had been on sale with Sleeping Beauty. However, the casting of the trio means the producers of the show, Qdos Entertainment, have changed the title to Robinson Crusoe and the Caribbean Pirates to allow John Barrowman to play the title role of Robinson Crusoe and Glasgow pantomime favourites, The Krankies, to play Captain Crusoe and Jimmy Crusoe!
The use of 3D special effects in the production of Aladdin was such a hit with audiences that the show's producers are also creating brand-new and even more spectacular 3D which will feature in Robinson Crusoe and the Caribbean Pirates.
"We are thrilled that John and The Krankies are returning to the SECC where they had such a fantastic run in Aladdin last Christmas," said Michael Harrison, managing director of Qdos Entertainment's pantomime division and executive producer of Robinson Crusoe and the Caribbean Pirates. "John's showmanship together with the hilarious antics of Glasgow panto favourites The Krankies, combined with ground-breaking 3D, means that audiences are in for another spectacular SECC pantomime," Michael added.

Bruce Forsyth won't be axed from Strictly Come Dancing says new BBC1 boss ~ 4th February 2011
Bruce Forsyth
by Mark Jefferies, Daily Mirror
THE new boss of BBC1 has ended speculation Bruce Forsyth could be axed from Strictly – by insisting he is the only man he wants in the job.
There were rumours Vernon Kay, 36, or John Barrowman, 43, would take over with Tess Daly, 41, this autumn.
But BBC1 controller Danny Cohen says the long-serving presenter, who turns 83 later this month, can keep the job for the 2011 run. He even hinted the veteran star could be in for a “Brucie bonus” – with his own one-off show at the start of 2012.
If Bruce signs as expected, it is understood his new deal would be worth around £500,000. Danny, 37, said: “Bruce is a great entertainer and if he wants to keep doing Strictly, the job is his.He is on holiday at the moment but when he gets back we will sit down and discuss things.”
Alex Jones and John Barrowman at centre of new Strictly Come Dancing gossip ~ 2nd February 2011
John and Alex Jones
The last series of Strictly Come Dancing only finished what feels like five minutes ago, but there’s already plenty of gossip about the next series.
First off it’s being reported that The One Show’s Alex Jones is the first celebrity to sign up to dance. Apparently BBC bosses want to reward the TV host for the way she handled Jason Manford’s resignation, a source snitched, “Alex has been a dream come true for The One Show. She held the whole thing together and everyone’s grateful. Bosses think it’s her time to shine.” If this is true she’ll certainly be kept busy.
Meanwhile there’s been fresh speculation about who’ll host Strictly in the future...
The position of Strictly Come Dancing male host isn’t actually officially vacant (yet), but that hasn’t stopped speculation that John Barrowman wants to replace showbiz legend Bruce Forsyth.
Torchwood star John Barrowman was crowned the winner of the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special tonight.
The 43-year-old and partner Kristina Rihanoff gave an energetic and festive performance of the quickstep which thrilled the judges on the show which also included a guest performance from series ten winners Kara Tointon and Artem Chigvintsev.
The former EastEnders star took to the stage with rugby player Gavin Henson, psychologist Pamela Stephenson and TV presenter Matt Baker.
John Barrowman to appear on Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special - 27th October 2010
Will John get his chest out?
All our wishes have come true! Our lovely John Barrowman will be appearing in the Christmas Special of Strictly Come Dancing as a guest contestant! John told The Sun newspaper "I'm ecstatic - I've watched Strictly since the first series". He is also looking forward to the fabulous costumes.
"I am looking forward to the challenge as it's so different to any of the dancing I've done in musicals. But more than anything I am so looking forward to the costumes. I can guarantee this - there will be sequins."
Also joining John will be Fern Britton, former co-presenter (with Philip Scholfield) of This Morning. John has also guest co-presented with Fern.
It'll be the first time where the contestants haven't previously appeared in Strictly as normally it is some of the current and past contestants who appear in the special.
This special will be aired on Christmas Day on BBC1 and BBC1 HD.
Can't wait!

Garage Sale Sets Off Rumour Mill ~ 6th September 2010
During the weekend of the 22nd August our lovely John worried everyone when he and Scott had a massive American style Garrage Sale, at their Welsh home in Sully, selling such things as Torchwood figures, signed scripts and other Torchwood memrobillia, as well as clothes, furniture and his three-year-old blue Peugeot 407 estate on sale for just under £7,000.
Though he will be leaving in January 2011 for 5 months to film the new series of Torchwood, John insisted that he wasn't leaving his beloved Wales and was only selling off unwanted items and making some money for the children’s hospice T Hafan whilst he was at it. And for an extra £1 on the price tag John would sign your bargain item too.
I’m just a regular citizen holding a normal garage sale to clear out a load of old junk and raise money for charity,” said the 43-year-old.
John and Scott had sent our flyers announcing the sale at their £750,000 Ocean view home announcing that everything must go. One of his neighbors said “It’s nice to see he’s part of the community.”
When I saw the news online I really was wishing I was on holiday in Wales! lol I would also like to apologize for the lateness of this news, but I was away on holiday and my internet was complete rubbish! lol
As on the official John Barrowman site ,John's concert will be filmed for DVD at the Royal Albert Hall on 4 October. Amazon UK now have the DVD for pre-order in PAL format.
www.johnbarrowman.com/news.shtml#rahdvd
And we can now confirm that there will also be an NTSC version for fans in North America! The NTSC DVD is not yet available for pre-order on Amazon UK, but we'll let you know when it has been listed.
Both versions are "Region-free" (ie Region 0).
As soon as we have more information on the release date, we will forward the information.

Unique Zaza Doll Created By Tonner For John - 04th August 2010
John shared, with twitter fans on Saturday, his newest addition to his doll collection. A unique John Barrowman doll made up as his La Cagce Aux Folles charecter Zaza. Accroding to AfterElton this doll was specially commision by John himself. But John said it was a gift, so I think we at BarrowmanDay will go with John on this :)
I did ask John about this on the day and this was his reply: "@pagan_hare it was a one off made just for me by the doll company as they make all the Torchwood and DR who Dolls." He also said to another fan "it was modeled after me thats why it looks like me...lol"
A twitter fan did email Tonner to see if they will be making these dolls for sale in the future, but they have made it clear that this is a complete one off and will not be put in to mass production, so making it all the more special for John.
We girls at BarrowmanDay think that John's new doll look more like him that the original Captain Jack doll that cost $199! What do you think?

John Barrowman to star in 'Glee'? - 25th July 2010
Sunday, July 25 2010, 08:04 BST
By Daniel Sperling
John Barrowman claims to be on the verge of securing a part in the new season of Glee after a recent meeting with show bosses.
The Desperate Housewives star, who recently announced his dream of playing one of Rachel Berry's gay dads, revealed that he is currently in talks to take on an unspecified role.
"I met with their casting people and I said I'd love to be in it," Barrowman told Now. "The ball's in their court, though."
Barrowman claimed to be discussing a possible role in the show back in March, but this was swiftly denied by executive producer Ian Brennan.
Season two of Glee is scheduled to premiere in the US on September 21 and will air in the UK sometime after.
Screening of Tonights The Night Confirmed ~ 7th July 2010
The first episode of the BBC1 series, also showing on BBC HD, will be on the 17th July. The time is as yet to be announced. This wonderful series where John makes peoples dreams come true for just one night, be it dancing with River Dance or singing with the cast of Hair Spray John and his TTN team makes it all very special. There are some changes to this years series such as 'Stage Fright' here John would take up a challenge against another celebrity and the battle of the work teams where two teams of work collegues would sing and dance, the best being voted by the studio audiance has been scrapped. This will allow for more time with the 'dreams come true' parts and also making it a much cleaner programme.
If you haven't seen Tonights the Night you can see it here on YouTube. Here's a link to the first part of the first show..Enjoy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4zbJTxH90Ts
John Barrowman on going from drag queen to eco-terrorist on Desperate Housewives - 20th June 2010
Jun 19 2010 Craig McQueen
HE'S been Captain Jack in Torchwood and eco-terrorist Patrick in Desperate Housewives - John Barrowman's 20 years in showbiz have been diverse.
The 43-year-old entertainer is equally at home on stage, on screen or in the recording studio.
The second volume of his autobiography, I Am What I Am, is out in paperback, with a new chapter on his life from the past 12 months. In this extract, compiled by Craig McQueen, he talks about his recent starring role in the west end and his appearance on Wisteria Lane.
To have spent my 20th anniversary in show business in highest drag, playing Albin in La Cage Aux Folles - one of the most iconic roles in musical theatre - was without doubt a career high.
My last role in a musical had been as dodgy lawyer Billy Flynn in Chicago in 2004 at the Adelphi Theatre in London. So it had been a few years and lots of TV work since I'd been on an eight-shows-a-week regime. Thankfully, it didn't take long for old habits and rituals to return.
Barrowman turns to fiction for Buster Books25.06.10 | Katie Allen
Michael O’Mara’s children’s imprint Buster Books is to venture into fiction publishing for the first time with a title from “Torchwood” and “Doctor Who” star John Barrowman.
World rights were acquired from Gavin Barker of Gavin Barker Associates for an undisclosed sum to the as-yet-untitled novel.
Buster Books publishing director Philippa Wingate said that “probably another” title would follow and “hopefully many after that”. The first novel, to be aimed at children aged 9-12 years old, is lined up for paperback publication in August 2011.
It is the first time that the children’s imprint has strayed into fiction, although MoM has published adult titles such The Devil’s Graveyardand others by Anonymous.
“We’re very excited,” said Wingate. “It’s a new thing for us . . . We will use experienced fiction editors who have worked with celebrities before.”

BBC Books has also confirmed that Barrowman will also be writing a “Torchwood” tie-in novel, although it is as yet untitled and unscheduled.

Barrowman's trip down Wisteria Lane(UKPA) – 4 hours ago
John Barrowman said he had a "humbling moment" the first time he walked down the street where Desperate Housewives is filmed.
The actor - who recently flew back from Los Angeles after filming scenes for the US series - said: "When I first went to America we went on a tour of Universal Studios and at that time the houses on Wisteria Lane were used for The Munsters and quite a few other homes that you would recognise if you went back into the 60s and 70s and 80s for television.
"As a kid I went down that way for the Universal Studios tour not knowing that as an adult man I would actually be filming with some of the biggest TV stars in America, and also not knowing that I would be on Desperate Housewives which is ranked as one of the top three shows in the history of television around the world. So that was kind of a humbling moment when I walked down that street for the first time to film. It was good."
The 43-year-old Glasgow-born actor said of his part in the show: "I really enjoyed it. It's going to air in June here. That's why my hair is so dark at the moment because they gave me what I call Bad Guy, Black Hair. I'm not a very nice guy in it."
John was speaking at a press conference for Christmas pantomime Aladdin in Glasgow, in which he is playing the lead role. The show is running at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre's Clyde Auditorium from December 11 to January 9, 2011.

Entertainment hunk John Barrowman is back in his native Glasgow, Scotland, to promote his forthcoming pantomine, Aladdin. The actor, who grew up in Aurora, Illinois, will be performing in the traditional British Christmas/New Year stage show from December 11th, 2010 – January 9th, 2011 at Glasgow’s SECC.
“I’m very, very excited to be coming to Glasgow. I love pantomime because it’s an art form that many people turn their noses up at in the industry and I think that’s a load of rubbish.

US Torchwood Remake Put On Hold 22nd April 2010
Fox has decided not to push ahead with its planned remake of Torchwood, the Doctor Who spin-off series. It was revealed earlier this year that Fox and BBC Worldwide Productions were developing an American version of Torchwood which would have seen John Barrowman reprise his role of Captain Jack Harkness once more. However, it now seems that the American Torchwood will not happen with Fox as the Hollywood Reporter reveals that the broadcaster has opted out of the remake.
However, it may not be the end of the road for the American version of Torchwood as Jane Tranter, who heads up BBC Worldwide, has revealed that they are hoping to take the series to another broadcaster. Tranter also revealed there were no plans though to launch an American version of Doctor Who "There is only one Doctor, so I don't see that happening." Tranter said.
